How do I disconnect the shift rod on a 1996 Evinrude 88 SPL

I'm trying to install a new water pump housing kit and impeller I can't seem to figure out how to disconnect the shift rod dislocated right below the carburetors all the videos I've looked at on online show the bolt on the side of that shift Rod connecting block but on the boat I have it's on the top of that block I can't seem to figure it out

Pair of pliers is all that is required.------Find the hitch pin on the lever that goes below the bottom carburetor.----Remove that hitch pin.-----Push that shaft to port side of the motor and rotate.-----Shift rod is now disconnected.
