Happy Easter,

I just inherited an old boat (1978 Arrow Glass Barracuda) from a friend who recently passed. It has been sitting for 12 years and was running good when it was parked. The Arizona sun has taken its toll on the exterior (Green Flake Gel Coat, Carpet & upholstery). The motor is 1977 Johnson 115 Horsepower Model # 115ETL77S. Where should I begin in getting this boat back on the water?

1. I purchased a 1977 OEM Service Manual.
2. ?
3. ?
4. ?

Your help is greatly appreciated,

2. compression check (we'll assume it passes)
3. Rebuild carbs
4. replace water pump
5. spark check (we'll assume it passes)
6. enjoy w/ 1 tank of 24:1 mix ratio then on to 50:1

There's also a thread on this forum called "Awakening a Sleeping Outboard" search for it and read it.

You will want to replace the fuel lines, all of them due to old age and dry rot, do nto want a piece of fuel line to get into the carbs and mess them up.

Also fuel pump, would have to have dried up after sitting that long, rebuild or replace.

flush the cooling system also, hard to tell what critters have got in there and built homes.

Those old 115 are great engines if maintained.

Use a fuel stabilizer additive in your fuel also, to prevent any varnish.
