C-skiff, I am still learning but from what I have learned so far... <br /><br />Your battery is charged by the flywheel magnets rotating around the stator coil. This creates an AC Voltage. The stator then passes the voltage to a regulator/rectifier (in my engine they are combined into one unit) which converts the AC Volts to DC Volts and I beleive regulates the voltage.<br /><br />On my engine I have a ground post that has a cable that runs to another ground post on the transom, this is where all of the accessories get ground. My engine also has positive post, I have not followed the cable back so I do not know if it goes into a control box or directly to the battery/battery switch.<br /><br />Hope this helps a little.
