how do i know if its alpha gen 1 or 2

hello all i have a 19ft 1986 larson with the 4.3liter mercruiser i need to replace the water pump in the stern drive but not sure how to tell if i have alpha gen 1 or 2 . the model number on engine is not readable for the sterndrive but the engine model number is any help would be great.also any help on a website that has instructions on how to do this would be great to

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard Paul,...

If the drive is original to the hull, an 86, it's an Alpha 1....
Gen.IIs didn't appear til 91 I believe....
