How do I know what prop I need?

I am very new to boats, and I know absolutely nothing about props. I have a '72 Glastron CV-16 with a '74 150hp Mercury outboard. When I bought it the owner said it would go faster with a different prop - and that's just what I want to do. :D First, would I be correct in thinking that if I wanted to cruise around at less than full throttle, a faster prop would use less gas at the same speed as the current one? When I'm looking for a new prop, what am I looking for? First, how do I know what fits my outboard, and second, what would I be looking for in terms of pitch, ect?

Thanks

Go to the home page on this site (iboats.com) and click on props. I believe there is a help link for finding the right wheel for your application.
Rule #1....prop for correct WOT RPM. You MUST know the prop you have now and what RPM you get at WOT, or you'll just be shooting in the dark. :D
