I'm wanting to upgrade to the new style bucket seats but I don't know how to remove the current bench seat thats in the boat now. All I see is 2 straps below the seat by your ankles and I've tried to unscrew those screws but they wont come out, they just keep on spinning like there stripped or something. Please help.

Guessing (invalidated my response immediately....grin), they are straps to hold onto in rough water. Ranger liked piano hinges and fiberglas; bought an '89 new and loved it. They may have glassed the seats into the boat then covered with carpet (plywood or composite structure, glass, and then carpet. Otherwise there should be some sort of angle bracket that screws into the seats and the deck.

If all else fails, dismantle the seats and in the process you will probably find your answer.

need pics.....

bench seats?....are we talking tinny here? or are we just talking back to back loungers?

most b2b.s were glassed in to the deck......that means you take a sawzall and with a long blade.....cut thru the fiberglass and cut the base out.

inside a lot of the bases was 2.part pour in foam. this means there was no deck that they added the bases to....but rather...an open hole that they foamed the boat with.

you might have to cut pieces of plywood and glass them into the holes.....
this will give you opertunity to re inforce the underside of the deck where the pedistal bases will bolt to......

(the underside of the deck NEEDS to be beefed up to hold pedistal seats)

you are most likely going to have to replace the carpet in the boat.

R70 seats are bolted from underneath to the big "L" shaped panel that is screwed to the back deck and the floor (basically the carpeted section that holds the seats. The screw heads may be covered with small plastic caps to blend in with the uphostery. Contrary to what "Fleet Admiral" says, Ranger never glasses in their seats or makes them that difficult to remove, they are replaceable just like most components on a Ranger.
