Ok here is dumb question:
I have controller taht is on the picture. I have outboard motor and some features of this controller are disabled. I am not 100% percent sure which ones.
I want to start the motor and add some gas to it (motor does not start now). I was told that I need to press the button in the middle (throttle only) and move lever towards center of the boat.
When I do that starter does not work - I think it still puts it in gear and protection engages. I tried button on top of the lever - same thing, it always puts boat in forward or reverse, so starter does not start.
Any suggestions?

Push the throttle button only button in, and move the control forward while you are still holding in the button. Does this work for you?

I am confused as to your statement about moving it to the center of the boat...

Are you holding the button in while advancing the throttle handle?
You may have to push the button and at the same time pull the lever away from the control box. You also probably have to PUSH the KEY in the ignition while cranking to engage the choke.

i've had the same control unit and a similiar problem you should be able to push the throttle control button on the bottom and that should put it in nuetrual and the motor should start that is unless it is unhooked and if it is try hooking it back up and that should solve your problem

The button that says 'throttle only'. Press it in and push the lever/control forward. Pressing the button and pushing forward should be gas only gear disengaged. Unless of course as you say some things aren't hooked up correctly.

I believe some controls release/disengage by pulling the lever out an inch. But I don't think this is one of them.

push and HOLD. if that doesn't work, the shifter is screwed up internally.

Yes, some shift levers had to be pulled out after the button was pushed...... pull the center of the lever where the button is towards the center of the boat after the button has been pushed.

Pushing the button gets it into throttle only mode

On the IB i had you pushed the button and then moved the throttle you can actually tell it was just moving the carb and not the shifter. When you move the throttle back to the center or neutral position the button would pop out.

Re: How do I rev up the motor in neuthral

I am guessing i will have to take shifter apart.
There are 2 "pulleys" (what is right term?) going to the motor. I am guessing one is throttle another gear shift. When I move lever to the front (or back) firstly the gear moves then after probably 1 third of the way the throttle starts moving until WOT.
When I press the middle button it goes in, stays there, but the sequence of movement stays the same - gear first and then throttle.

When the motor is in gear the key does not start the starter - probebly internal protection.

I am guessing the button is not connected or does not work.
My last resort (after attemt at fixing the lever) is to disconnect the throttle at motor and move it manually.

Should it rev up in neutral in both, pushing lever forward and reverse?
