I'm trying to test the Stator switch box and trigger . First off I don't have a DVA adaptor so I know I'm going to be a little limited on what I can test but I am not 100% clear on how to perform these tests. Do I unhook the wires from the switchbox or just test them at the conection terminals?

Like the Trigger if I leave it hooked up and test the Ohms between the Brown and White (trigger wires) I get an ohm reading of .684k and unhooked I get a reading of .810k (my meeter is autoranging)

This is a 1980 40hp

If the wires are left hooked up while using a Ohm Meter your readings could be wrong. Always remove all the wires and test the componate by its self. This should be done for all testing using only Ohm meter if no DVA is used. The lowest reading that you get on the auto rangeing meter should be the one that needed. JMO
