I just bought A boat with two livewells. It has two holes at the back. One is a threaded tube. There is a bilge inside that goes to the livewells. There is sprayers inside the livewells. The livewells looks like they drain to the side of the hull. Does this mean the boat has to be in the water for the livewells to hold water. How do the livewells work

There should either be a plug or a stand-pipe to go in the drain hole, so you can run water continuous, or timed intervals, and this also allows keeping water in livewells when on plane or on the trailer......
Edit: The stand-pipe is hollow and allows water to fill to a certain point before going overboard thru the hull drain.

There's two holes at the back of boat. One is like a threaded platic pipe. The other is like a bilge fitting. Then inside the boat its like a little holding tank with a bilge pump inside it.

The livewells have a spraybars with taps in them and two holes aswell

Is the threaded pipe at back of boat so you can cap it

The boat doesn't have to be in the water for the livewells to hold water, but it has to be in the water to pump in fresh water.

There are about as many Livewell applications as there are fleas on a dog! Ive had Skeeters, Rangers, and now a 1800SF Tracker, and they all have been different! I beleive you are going to have to put the boat in the water and see what happens! The tracker that I have now, you have to put a plug into the drain holes before you launch, then fill them after you get to where you are going to fish! Then they recurculate fresh water when the pump is on and overflow out the side! The Ranger I had, had a heater type push pull valve in place of the plug, Much handier and I think I will change mine to this! Some just recurculate the water inside after they fill, Not the best as the water gets warm and is not good on the fish! Hope this helps!

The stand pipe, mentioned earlier, inside the well comes from the outlet fitting to some point below the top of the tank. It should keep the water in even when the boat is out of the water. Just disconnect or put the top of the stand pipe down to the bottom of the live well to allow the water to drain. Without the stand pipe in place or a plug in the outlet, water may come into the boat when it is not moving.
