Greetings,
I have a 1999 Maxum bowrider. I need to replace the vinly on the cushion attached to the sides in the bow. This boat has two cushions on the sides and two under the windshield. I can not figure how they de-attach from the fiberglass. Please help.

Pix would help mustang, maybe someone who's never seen a 1999 Maxum, could tell from some pix.

If I had to guess, the vinyl cushion is an upholstered piece of plywood, and there are bolts or screws from behind/below thru the fiberglass & into the plywood backer board. Read through mrdjflores seat guide. I suspect yours are similar..

Re: How do these come off?

Good Morning,
Thanks for the thread, but I really need to know how to remove these cushions. Yes, I believe they are plywood backing with vinyl covering. I am going to try to attach a pricture. I can not get behind the fiberglass to see if there are srews/bolts. There isn't any room to get between the hull and inside wall. I hope they didn't install these before they bonded the hull and inside shell of the boat. Please see what you think.

if there is no room to get to them, then they were either installed prior to the hull/cap being joined, or they used a press in catch...are you planning to remove and replace them? if so put some muscle into and see if they come loose/break out....you could then grind off the bolts if it was installed that way and use an alternative method of reattaching when you put it back together...

Re: How do these come off?

They are probably 'clipped' in .. or 'tree' fastened.

Try to lift ( equally ) straight UP on the bolsters.

Do you have any speakers around the area in question ? Sometimes they will hide a bolt for some unknown reason. You would have to remove the speaker to get to it.

Do you have any 'button' type snap covers ?

I would try the ol' lift up on the bolsters first.

I was going to suggest the same as JDA, maybe even try to open a seam all the way around from the top, try to pull the foam, and save the pieces for patterns. You might get lucky & be able to see the inside end of the fasteners/clips whatever.....

The model & length + I/O or OB details would also help. That way if i choose to I might hunt down a bow shot from the internet & see it there.

Open a photobucket acct. Hover your mouse over the pix you want to post, the last IMG code tag can be copied & pasted here:

Regarding photo sizes, here is a little tip:

Just open microsoft paint, go to resize/skew, then at resize change the percentage.

The following:

If near 1024x768 resolution jpeg photo, you should not need to do any file converting.

If near 2048x1536 resolution jpeg photo, resize it to 50% on horizontal and vertical.

if near 3000x2000 resolution or higher jpeg photo, reduce it to only 25% of original size for horizontal and vertical.

Now, regarding your seat cushion bolts holding your upholstery to your bow in front of your windshield, I suspect them are in the hard to reach cavity area between the console portion and whatever butts up against it. Glove compartment for passengers, instrument dash for the driver.

Take a flashlight, get under the consoles of driver side and passenger side and look for a cavity opening where the wall is of the bow section meets the consoles. It's a good bet that you'll find bolts sticking through, that which is most likely holding your upholstery.

Re: How do these come off?

With photobucket the above^^^ is not needed. Photobucket allows you set the default size of all uploaded pics and will automatically resize then for you...

Set your default upload size:
  1. Log into your account.
  2. Click the Upload now button in the main navigation bar. The Uploader page displays.
  3. Click the Customize your upload options link near the bottom of the page.
  4. Select 640 x 480 (preferred size of the forum)
  5. All uploaded pics will now be automatically resized
That's all there is to it.

This ^^^^ is great advice, but if you have a slow internet connection, resizing using the above method will make for a lot faster uploads...full size pictures are over 1MB each...after resizing you can upload 10 under 1 MB , if ya got a fast connection bypass the resize and just upload!

Re: How do these come off?

Hi guys,
OK, I went out there tonight and started bullying this thing. I first tried to pull and push, no luck. Then I got a block of wood and tapped it up and I heard a piece fall inside the hull. Pulling the cushion away I saw there were push pins link a tree, 5 of them, well only three on one side now. But, they came off, now I can clean them up and consider dying or painting the vinyl. It's in good shape, just stained pretty bad from the mold.
Thanks again for all the support and suggestions.
