You take the bolt off of the pinion gear. Then you still have 22,23,24,25 holding the shaft in the housing.<br /><br />So you get the shaft chucked up in some soft jaws, and drive the housing away from the vice. Two people, one to hold the housing and you using a block of wood held against it and hit that with a BIG hammer.(it's the junk housing anyway right) you can also apply heat to the area around the outside along with penetrating oil. If this is a saltwater unit it could even be tougher. It can look real ugly or mickymouse but they usually will come apart eventually. <br /><br />I know this is probably different than your unit but you get the idea that the stepped shaft is still retained in the housing by the bearing ect.
