Question one=I have looked and researched all day on this and cant find anything even in the shop manual or online manuals on how to get the part that is circled in red off. Question 2=The part that is circled in yellow is a bolt that is attached to the shaft, it is different than the all the other trim rods listed online in that the bolt is part of the shaft, do you think the trim cylinder is from another boat?

Hi there, welcome to iboats!:) What engine and drive model and year are you working on?

Are the casting numbers the same between the two rams?

That looks like the shock piston your trying to remove correct? Did a floating piston with an O-ring around it come out of the cylinder as well?

Looks like the end of the "bolt" in yellow has threads? Could you double nut it like removing a stud? Demonstration for you if needed, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66ATKL4G04M

Maybe posting a photo of both your trim cylinders might help.

Good luck.:)

Appreciate it Bt. Doc, but i managed to remove the piston from the SS shaft, it was frozen and wouldn't budge at first but i gave it some love and it worked.

Casting numbers are 45520 but the engine, drive model, and year wouldnt matter because its from another boat. However it is a pre-alpha trim rod, Have you ever seen the bolt as part of the rod? The other trim rod is actually a bolt that holds the parts together unlike this one, maybe its from an older boat?

^^^ Yep, hard to beat those prices on new.

Wasn't there a nut on the threads in yellow when you removed it? Should be item # 26 in the Mercstuff links below. Some had a stud like yours while most had bolt. Page 18 in the following link should help confirm that theory. I don't believe the stud is removable. I'm too young to know for sure.:D http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...72197243,d.cGU

The pivot end is the part you'd remove like shown the links above.

Hope this helps, good luck.:)
