There is no port on the flywheel to set the points, so i am guessing i have to do it with the flywheel off. How do i set them? i can only think of using an older flywheel from a 1958 johnson with the port. Then replacing the original flywheel. Will this work?

If it's like my 67 9.5 horse, then you take the flywheel off.

Remove flywheel, adjust as instructed in your repair manual and reinstall flywheel, being sure to TORQUE the flywheel nut with a TORQUE WRENCH.

Otherwise you will learn how to replace flywheel keys and other items.

I alway set mine with the flywheel off. Using the flywheel nut to turn the shaft to top. Setting, then replacing the flywheel. I find it easier.
