How do you wash a boat cover?

I've got one of those soft fabric type of boat covers (not the canvas covers like the rest of the covers). I'm not sure what the fabric it is, but I'm hoping their all pretty universal. <br /><br />My question is, my cat has recently taken up "spraying" or urinating small bursts of spray all over my garage. The biggest recipient was my boat cover which I unfortunately stored in the corner. Does anyone have any advice how a person might clean one of these? It reeks horribly.

Here's what I do with my canvas one:<br /><br />I lay it out on the driveway. Soak with water. I sprinkle laundry soap around. Scrub nasty spots with a brush (you could probably use a push broom, but I get on my hands and knees with a smaller brush). Rinse with hose. Flip it over, repeat. Leave in sun to dry. Seems to work for me.

I did the same thing as QC. I also got my worst sun burn of the season doing this. Wear sun screen.

Wash, dry.<br />Apply a liberal amount of pet urine odor remover. Available at large pet stores. It contains a live enzyme that eats the bacteria, that causes the odor.

Could you not take it to a place that has a large size commercial washing machine and wash it using the gentle cycle? Maybe treat it with something such as Roscoe suggested first. Seems if it is a soft fabric cover it could be washed.

If your top is made out of Sunbrella (lots of them are) then go to this link, the manufacturer has posted cleaning instructions, keep in mind that quite often when you wash them you have to retreat them with waterproofing again, the website covers this as well. Sunbrella Cleaning

Open the boat cover up - across the garage floor. Place the cat in the middle of the cover, along with some cat food, to distract it. Quickly fold the cat up in the boat cover. Donate both to the local animal shelter.<br /><br />Go buy a new boat cover. Don't get another cat...

I HAVE LOTS AND LOTS OF CATS. WHEN THESE LIL GUYS DECIDE TO SPRAY. I WILL GET A WATER BOTTLE PUT A BIT OF REG WHITE VINIGER IN IT AND DELUTE IT WITH WATER. SATURATE THE SMELLY AREA UNTIL ITS SOAKED THEN ALLOW TO AIR DRY. TADA NO MORE CAT SMELL. THIS ALSO WORKS FOR HEAVY SMOKE OR CIGERATE ODER AS WELL. THIS ODER REMOVER COST WAY LESS THAN THE STUFF YOU PURCHASE AT PET STORES. WORKS GREAT.

Ok I know not everyone will like this so I will start with a i'm sorry have a nice day! Ok first can the cat swim? (no) Ok the next trip to the lake test the cat swim theory for yourself..........trust me there won't be a next time!!

If cover is Sunbrella, lay it out and scrub with Woolite laundry detergent.Do not wash in washing machine. After it dries treat with 303 Fabric Gaurd. (make sure it is Fabric Gaurd not 303 Protectent)

You didn't say how large the cover is. Take it to the wishy washee and wash it in their oversized washers. First, clean any spots with 303 fabric /convertible top cleaner. Then let it dry naturally. Then spray it with 303 fabric treatment, and you won't have to treat it for another 3 years.
