I own a 1975 Merc 500 Thunderbolt, 50HP on a 14' fiberglass Tri-Hull. I've been looking for a lighter boat with a cleaner running motor.

I'm leaning towards the 50HP Evinrude E-Tech on an 14' - 16' aluminum. (Starcraft, Polar Craft, Misty Harbor, Alumacraft, Smoker Craft),

I was wondering what other people thought of the E-Tech and how it compared to other 50HP motors. (ie: Pros & Cons)

What do you think?

I'd check the weight and length of the motor, to make sure they are compatible with the boat.
An E-TEC 50 HP comes in at about 240 lbs and is available only as a 20" shaft.

Your right with weight and shaft length issue. I was looking at that and will keep it in mind when pairing it up. I really like the output of 81 amps.

Has anybody looked at the specs of these motors?

Probable that the Etech is the only two stroke engine of the bunch. Since it fires every rpm, you will find it has much more torque when accellerating than the comparable 4 strokes. At top end-they all make the same hp. Etech fuel economy should be equal or slightly better to that of 4 strokes. You don't have to pay for annual oil changes and the on-board computer has a neat winterizing feature that no other engine has.

the 4 bangers are too heavy for a tinny.
mainatinance is gonna be a lot higher for 4 stroke too.
I'd keep it simple, Etec all the way.
