I was wondering how one measures the shaft length on an outboard motor? I am pretty sure my boat has a 25in shaft on my mercury 200hp outboard. I need to replace the motor so I will need one with the same shaft length.

From the anti-ventilation plate up to the bottom of the hook over the transom on the clamp/transom bracket. That's the easiest way, I think.

Yup, ^^^^ . . . You should find values near 15", 20" and 25" (short, long, extra long). Although on my outboard, I was never able to get an exact match when I measured it IIRC. I think I came up with something around 17" so it was/is a short shaft.
