How does one remove teleflex cable from engine?

It is a 1977 Mercruiser 120 with number 1 drive on nineteen foot boat. I have new rack and cable mounted up front but I can't seem to drive the old cable out with hammer and flat head approach. It is a thru engine mount.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Then, of courses, I'll have to figure out how to navigate the 90 degree turn with the new cable.

power steering ?
Remove the 2 large bolts that hold the tube in place, loosen nut on cable end,slide the tube off.install on new cable, reassemble.
