I found a pair of back to back boat seats.

Measurements look like they will fit in my boat, and the color is what I want them to be. He's asking 150.

Problem is, They are 3 hours away, 160 miles away....

Is it worth the drive to get them?

It'll cost me 30 -40 in fuel to drive and get em... (wife wont let me strap them to the roof of her car)

Re: How far to drive for boat seats?

Two weekends ago I needed a specific brand and model number computer. I'm in the Tampa area, and I found one - in Ft Lauderdale, 5+ hrs away. This system was essential to my business, so I had full intentions of making the drive. Luckily, the guy selling it happened to be going to Orlando, (only 1 hr from me) and we met there. There are a few good-hearted people on CL (assuming thats where you found them), that will meet you somewhere in the middle. You may have to give some gas money, or at the very least pay what he's asking for the item.

It doesn't hurt to ask is what I'm saying... But, yes, I'd drive that distance if it was exactly what I wanted. Make a day trip out of it with the family. :)

What are the seat costs for new? A bit more than $150 plus fuel i imagine.

It is entirely up to you what you want to do. I would do it if they were the seats I was looking for. Even if your old seats had goos wood, having them reupholstered would most likely run you more $$$.

Take the wife, or if she won't go a buddy, and make a day of it. Check the area around where the seats are located. Have a nice lunch and check out a mall or some sites. (This of course if the wife goes. If the buddy option, then it's Tilted Kilt and a couple beers and some sites:D)

Heck, a buddy and I drove nearly 9 hours to Ohio to buy a wave runner because it was close to the price I was looking to pay. I e-mailed the salesman, said where I was from and I would come get it if we could work a little better price. He responded in a less than business manner and when I got to the dealer with printed e-mail in hand I got my Yamaha for the "quoted" price.:)

Re: How far to drive for boat seats?

Well lets see, in the last year I drove an extra 150 miles round trip to pick up a trailer, drove 500 miles to look at a $400 boat (bought it), drove 400 miles to look at a $1700 boat (really worth 700), drove 300 miles to look at an atv, drove back another 300 miles to pick it up a week later after I got the seller to drop the price, and made 3 trips of 100 miles to look at motors.

If you have the time, go for it.

You can make an express trip of it, travel light, alone, no extra stops, and be done.
Or you can day trip, take the wife, stop to shop, eat, sightsee, and blow 15 hours and arrive back home exhausted.

Where are the seats?

Are you sure you are going to get them, not change your mind when you see them up close?
Maybe someone else could pick them up and delivery them part way for you.

We'll be running from here to Green Bay on Friday.
My parents will be coming thru Point from Milwaukee the 6th ? of August.

You'd pay more to have new ones shipped also. Sounds worth the trip if they are nice.
