Hi all. First time out in our newly acquired Sea Ray (it is a 1980 SRV 225) with a mercruiser outdrive. I am used to OMC and am not sure how far up I can have the merc outdrive and still safely operate in gear. I need to get into some pretty shallow water and want to know if I can do it off plane. With the OMC on our other boat I have to go over the shallows planed out in order to get through without hitting the bottom.
If I keep the rpm's down can I run with the merc outdrive up higher then the trim limit switch allows by using the trailering switch?

Not too much higher and not above idle.

1200 RPM, or thereabouts.

I do it all the time, not a problem.:)

The trim limit should shut off when the trim cylinders are extended to 21 3/4 inches center to center on the bolts. Above that point it is best to be careful.

The reason it stops at 21 3/4 is there is still a support for the drive side to side. You can go up further for shallow water operation, but be careful. Too high and the ujoints will start hitting the transom shield causing damage. Keep rpms low. (in the manual)
