How hot should the exhaust water be?

I have a force 125 which started to overheat. Thinking that the 10 year old oil I used might be no good, I dumped enough new oil to bring the mixture from 50 to 25 to 1. The alarm does not go off but the tell tale is so hot I can barely put my hand in it. Is this normal? Is all that oil masking a problem? I know the best thing would be to replace the waterpump etc., but it's a real pain to get it out of the water. Also does anyone know how to trouble shoot the alarm (there is no gauge) Or remove the thermostat?

Replace the waterpump or you won't have to worry about the engine anymore. If the water coming out is too hot to touch, it's overheating bad. Oil will not compensate for overheating. The alarm is going off because it's overheating. Water should be warm to the touch.
