Can anyone explain the possible risk of not using "grounding springs" for the trim cylinders on my 1982 pre-alpha mercruiser 260? Does it have to do with Corrosion?

Yes, they keep the trim cylinder pins from corroding.

One note, if you keep your boat on a trailer and only in the water during use, and you only boat in fresh water, it won't make much difference if they are missing or not.

Thanks! I trailer to and from lake superior. I won't be replacing them.
