I was listening to the radio this morning and they reported that we in New Jersey sit in traffic congestion for an average of 48hrs a year. With predictions for next year to be up to 72hrs.
That's three day's you are just sitting in your car doing nothing.

The politicians have bonded so much that the state's transportation trust fund is only paying debt service there is no money for road improvements.

With No real public transportation everybody needs their car and car pooling has been tried and failed. The HOV lanes made things worse instead of better. I know from personal experience that my 40 minute commute has taken 2 hrs+ at times. Anybody else with similar problems.
