i was just wondering how long it would take for fuel to go bad inside the carb and fuel system. the reason im asking is because i have a johnson 4hp model number 4w77 that i use for trolling or for emergency use. last season i did not start it much and at the end of the season it did not run well. i have since cleaned the carb and changed the fuel pump. it ran well earlier this season. and the last time i started it ran well. but i have not started it for a few months now. my question is if 2 months is too much for it to sit with fuel in the system? i do most of my fishing in the fall and i always put it away with stabil and i fog it also. should i start it more frequently during the summer?

thats what i figured i will start it on sunday. and i will run it for a while. hope it did not gum up again. i did not have alot of time this summer to get out on the water. as long as its running for the fall i am happy.

If it's a 2 stroke engine with internal fuel tank, start engine, close fuel valve and let die from fuel starvation...carb will remain in opt clean state for next outing. If possible consume all fuel, it's good to run fresh fuel.

Happy Boating
