I acquired a Honda Bf75 and wondering how good it is. I have no experience with 4 stroke outboards. How long have these been made?

Re: How long Honda outboards made and how good

I'm on my second honda 4 stroke. My first, a bf75, was stolen. Now I have a bf100 (9.9 hp) that actually seems to have a blown head gasket (see several topics down) They've been made since at least 1976, that's the earliest that's covered in my shop manual. I've been very happy with both of mine (blown head gaskt notwithstanding) and feel pretty confident being pushed around by them. There seem to be a lot of newcomers to the 4 stroke outboard market, that's all honda's ever done.

Wow, clanton, that's pretty impressive! I have to ask, how did you know that? Do you know if it's always been four strokes for honda?

I was there in 1966, it was 4 stroke, from what i have read about Honda, the old man hated 2 strokes, and the 2 strokes motocycles were not made and sold until he step down as president. Honda had multi cylinder motorcycle engines turning 14000 to 18000 rpms over 30 years ago. these were factory racing engines.
