How long to get new state boat registration?

I bought a boat in Ill two weeks ago and haven't received my registration yet. I can't even use my boat until I get the sticker because there are so many cops on the water I get pulled over every time I go up river for failure to display registration. No ticket since I have paperwork but a nuisance and risk nonetheless. With my last boat I had my new sticker within a week every time I renewed.

not sure about Illinois title in Wisconsin, however I always just stop in the DNR office in Green Bay and take care of it there.

did you call the DNR as follow up?

Registered 6 boats in WI in the last 2 years.
One of them was bought out of state.

I took info to local chamber of commerce and had registration card and stickers printed on the spot. Titles were mailed to me, about 4 days later.

You can do it on the internet too, but still have to wait for the mail.

3 or 4 years ago, I mailed it all in, waited about 3 weeks to get it back.

As long as you have your copy of the paperwork, you will be fine. But still a hassle.

Perhaps you should visit less crowded waters till you get the stickers. I haven't seen any patrol boats this year, except on the Winnebago chain.

Problem is the dealer in Ill sent in all the info and I paid for WI registration down there. I just called the DNR and they have no record of my info being received. Sigh, this whole experience has not gone overly well.

I paid the reg fee at Probass shop and 5 days later my sticker came in the mail.I would have my papers with me and use the boat..If they want to check you let them waste their time.I believe I would look for a better place to boat. I haven't been checked in 3 years for anything

Have you checked with the dealer to see if he actually sent in the paperwork? We went through something similar with (see http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=546423 for all the painful details) and it turned out that our Peoria dealer was dishonest, incompetent or lazy (or, more likely, all three) and never filed the paperwork, but we eventually got everything corrected. The lesson I learned is to actively pursue information and not just assume all is well. If your dealer filed the paperwork, he/she can give you specific info (date of filing, check number for fees) that the DNR should be able use to track down your stuff.

Good luck!

I hope they didn't mail it to Springfield IL with all their other paperwork.
If they did, you are in for a long fight.

I have a long list of reasons to avoid anything IL, this is one of them.

I feel your pain.

Our river has two long slow no wakes on it and they usually station an officer at each one to feed on slow moving prey. My friend got stopped twice within 10 minutes of each by a different officer for not having reg. displayed. It's absolutely insane some days.

I'm beginning to think I'm in the same boat so to speak. The dealer "swears they sent it" yet the DNR (who was very friendly and helpful actually) has no record of any paperwork being received.

Despite the circumstance, our dealings with the Illinois DNR employees were very positive. We found them to be extremely helpful. Sound like the dealer is the problem here, no?

I dont trust dealers..... then again, I dont trust many people from Illinois. When I bought my SeaRay out of St Louis from Marine Max, the dealer put it in an over-night package to Wisconsin DNR and DOT. I got both tracking numbers and it was a pleasure. I dont remember how long it took. bought the boat in March, was boating on April 1st when the ice went out.

3 weeks to get mine in NY on a dealer purchase, on the spot if you go into a DMV. Here you also get a temp registration good for (I think) 45 days.

:p

Nothing bad said about flatlan... I mean fish.... I mean FIB,,,, I mean Illinois residents. :D
Most of them are victims too.

Its Illinois itself. Well, at least the northern most part of it.

roads
tolls
traffic cams
tangled webs of bureaucracy
taxes
fees
parking
traffic
the cost of doing business
the inconvenience of "services not offered"
crime
pay before you pump
and "the chicago machine"

:D

Good luck Knot Waiting, keep us posted.
