How long to wait for water to come it after first start?

Hey y'all. I just started my boat for the first time this season. This is my first year starting up the boat after winterization. It started hard, as to be expected, but there was no water coming out of the lower unit. I have muffs hooked up. Just wondering how long I should run it until I should see water. I had it going for 10-15 seconds twice, but I don't want to ruin anything. Thanks

Not sure how long - 10 -15 seconds seems about right. Make sure you have plenty of water pressure on the muffs. Some seem to think you can blow out seals or something and just barely turn the water on. Make sure it is spilling out all over the place! :)

If I have water on the muffs, will I hurt my impeller by running it longer?

Fired it up, and it started spitting water a second or two later lol. Better safe than sorry though. Thanks, guys.
