How many batteries do you have for your main engine?

I have a Yamy F150 and a 9.9 Kicker. The boat has one battery for the motors, and ALL the accessories; GPS, 2 Fish Finders, AM/FM/CD VHF, Bilge Pump, Livewell Aerator, Light & Pumps and Boat Lighting.

I never use all this at the same time but I do use livewells, GPS, FF's and sometimes lights. If I am trolling (separate batteries) and I am using the FF and Livewells and Lighting am I risking not being able to start up??

Re: How Many Batteries???

If everything except the trolling motor is running off the starting battery I hope you have the largest dual purpose (combination marine/starting) battery availble. Regular starting batteries don't like to be drawn very far and if they are you definitely might be left with a dead battery. Either carry a jump start pack for emergencies, or an alternate would be to install two batteries with a battery switch. Set it to BOTH when running. When you reach your fishing hole, kill the engine and switch to either BAT 1 or BAT 2. When ready to go, switch back to BOTH. That way you are sure you have at least one topped off battery to get you started.

Yes you do that quite a bit lately, but because your knowledge is so deep, people don't notice ;)

Re: How Many Batteries???

my setup is like yours, Bul, the cranking battery handles the accessories, just not as many (no gps, courtesy lighting or stereo). But, I have two batteries for the trolling motor, and a pair of jumper cables...figure between the three of 'em I'll manage to get her cranked. I do use a deepcycle for cranking but it's just 70hp. And only the cranking batt is connected for charging, its only 6 amps anyway.

Thanks guys,

I have a Crestliner 1850SF with a Yammy F150 there are two rear compartments the one on the port side has the cranking battery the other is empty (except for some storage)but the fuel lines connect in there.

Is it ok to put a battery in there? I always check the lines but every once in a while I do smell gas.

Normally I shut down one FF and the GPS when I troll. I have a FF on the troll motor. Basically only at night would any lights be on. Livewells (2) are airated and one is lighted.

If I can't put the second batt in the starbord compartment I don't know where I cna put it.

Re: How Many Batteries???

I’ve got size 27 dual purpose batteries under both hatches in the back to take care of my electrical needs. The one battery even shares the compartment with the oil tank and the Racor.
