Hi, I have a Saturn 12' and has no D-rings inside the boat, I've installed 2 but looks that are not enough. I see that other boats like JP Marine comes with a lot of D-rings from the factory so how many do you guys think would be practical to have , also would be good to have some of them attached to the floor?
Thank you,
Paul

Re: How many D-rings

Only you know the answer to that question Paul. I would suggest gathering everything you think you might ever conceivably put on your boat and place it where you think you might place it under different conditions; camping, rough water, short day trip, etc. That will give you an idea of how many and where. Obviously it's difficult to have too many D rings, but you don't want to go overboard and waste a bunch of time and money.

Yeap, Inccop is right, personally find a real exageration on the JP model to have so many d'rings glued eveywhere, some of them might never be used; marketing issues, definitely a visual plus for the higher price payed compared to other standard sibs. Will need a special glue if wanting to secure d'rings ontop alum floor.

Re: How many D-rings

My boat has two large D rings inside about 2 feet aft of the bow and two more pairs of small plastic D rings toward the middle. Sometimes I put a tie-down strap between the two large ones if I want to keep some gear up toward the bow (otherwise everything migrates to the stern).

Other than that, I don't tie stuff down with the D-rings. I've found my boat rides much better with more weight in the stern so I put the heavy stuff (anchor crate, fuel tank etc.) toward the back and it pretty much stays put. The only thing that gets tied down is the battery box, which is bungeed down with footman's loops on the deck.

As others said, take the boat out a few times and see what moves and whether you feel needs to be tied down before committing to any more D-rings.

However, if you have a bare wood or aluminum floor, one thing that might help is to get some kind of deck mat such as this: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200306157_200306157. The non-slip surface helps to stop gear from sliding around (side to side at least) and it's safer to walk on when wet as well.

Re: How many D-rings

I use this boat for scuba diving in southeast FL and the seas are most of the time choppy. sometimes you have too many rings ( I think) but for 1 tank 2 divers plus 1 bubble watcher 4 rings will do the job.
Thank you all
Paul
