Hey folks, I could use some help. I removed the water jacket hoses and two brass plugs located at the bottom of the block by the oil pan. Plenty of water came out, but is there any more I need to remove before the cold comes?? I also removed the outdrive. It will stay off for the winter.(have to remove it in the spring anyway to grease the u-joints.) Sorry it's a 5.7 liter mercruiser alpha one. thanks

Joe you also need to drain the exhaust manifolds and riser, I drain mine by pulling the cooling hose from the manifold barb, located bottom centre of manifold, once drained I then hook hose back up then disconnect same hose from thermostat side and fill manifold and riser with a non-toxic antifreeze, I fill until I get A/F draining out or exhaust ports, then reattach hose and do the same for the other exhaust manifold, once that complete I pull big hose from t-stat to water pump, ( disconnect from t-stat only) then a pour A/F down hose into block, but make sure you have drain plugs back in block. When filling block I first put about 2 litre of a/f in, then I remove the two brass drain plugs again, just to make sure I got all the water out, then install drain plugs and fill block until A/F starts flowing out of T-stat housing, were big hose goes, at that point reinstall hose. Next pull the 1.5 inch cooling hose from T-stat (opposite big hose for water-pump) this is the intake water cooling hose that passes from outdrive and through the power steering cooler(located under port (left side) manifold, once hose is discontected from t-stat pour antifreeze down, this will backflush any water out will drain from water intake on lower outdrive, do this until A/F starts coming out from drive, make sure to have drive down position...I know you already removed the drive but you can still do the backflush. Heres a recap of what holds water ( Engine Block , Exhaust manifolds and risers power steering cooler). I just winterized last night now I'm hearing of wet snow in Ajax, Barrie ,Kitchener...

No problem Simcoe, I know what you mean about the snow, saw some on the news last night showing Shelburne and Barrie area, and then I went out to mow the lawn, got pounded with Ice pellets for like 5 min. I guess I'll haul the boat back up to Port Severn on Saturday and park her in the shed until next May. Oh ya I almost forgot to mention to add Fuel stabilizer to the Tank as well if you havn't.

Re: how many drain plugs are there??????

So today I started winterizing my 5.7 liter as well, however I started it up, let it run untill it got up to temp 160 degrees for a while. Unhooked the muffs, took two blue drain plugs out of the top of the motor area, exhaust? put the plugs back in, poured 5 gallon of a/f into a jug, put the jug up ontop of the boat, started the motor, it ran for a min or two with out anything, then the gage went up to 180- 200 degree's and then the pink antifreeze started coming out the exhauste and out the prop. I let it run for a min or so more shut it down. took what was left and poured it into each line on the front of the motor. the large line i filled untill it started running back out the top of the block from where i took the line off, the to smaller lines cuased it to run out the exhaust of prop. good enough?

Chet, you should probably start your own thread, and check your impeller and exhaust shutters if you ran it for a min or 2 with no water.
