How many hours out of an E Tec?

Hi
I have the opportunity to buy a 2006 250hp Evinrude Etec. It's a one owner / fully serviced (with dealer records) unit and it looks tidy. BUT it's done nearly 1100hrs. I don't want to get myself into something that's going to cost big money to fix in the short term, so what is a consertive number of hours could one expect to get from one of these engines before it will likely need major work or overhaul? When it does come time for overhaul what typically needs doing, i.e. Complete new crank/ Pistons etc, or just the top end? Aside from the usual culprits like gear case seals, what other things are likely to start giving trouble in an engine of this age? Thanks

One of the things to consider on these complex motors is the electrical / sensor / oil pump / computer systems.----------Repairable they are but a full rebuild may get to big $$$$ items.

a friend of mine just repowered his boat. The old etecs had about 3500 hours on them. It all comes down to maintenance.

Thanks guys, that's good to know. I am also considering other options including a Honda 225 Vtec. It's going to be a replacement for an old Mercruiser 228, so the boat will be needing to gain a bracket out the back but will also benefit from a heap more room inside the cockpit.
