How much alignment adjustment?

So far I've adjusted the front mounts up 4 turns, coupler splines still look the same.
I can see heavy splines at the bottom, none on top. Still can't get the alignment tool to even start into the coupler.

As much as it takes. Being that far off ,how hard was it to remove the outdrive.
Any chance you had the engine out?

Drive slid right out. The PO had the center section of the bilge rebuilt. Apparently the center stringers the motor mounts bolt to can go bad. I'm assuming they had both engines out to perform the work, which was professionally done. The drives may not have been off since that work was done. Guess I'll raise it as far as she'll go and see how it looks.

You might need to put spacer shims under mounts if you run out of adjustment.

Hopefully I won't have to pull the mounts from the stringers and shim them for this.
I've raised the engine up to the point where the locknuts are flush with the mount stud. I can forcefully get the alignment tool in.
I know when my arse is kicked, and its not worth putting any more time into it. I'll take it in this week and have a professional align it, then bring her home and slide the drive on.
Hopefully the stbrd drive isn't this difficult!!!

Did tou tap the bar while in the gimble to set it ? this could be your issue the bearing does move slightly in it's casing hense gimble.

I didn't mess with the gimble. If it'll take weeks to get it in for alignment, I might try tweaking it.
