Ok, as some of you know, I am going through a crisis with my 79 VIP bass boat and the transom. Of all the options I have mentioned, here is another. I can try to sell my boat as a project boat. I just don't know how much to list it for. I will list all of its features and maybe you all could help me out. Well here goes.

1979 VIP Bass Boat 17' w/ 80HP Mercury engine. The topside paint which should be blue is cracking and faded to a blue/green. The interior is faded and carpet needs to be replaced. It has a fancy motorguide cordless footpettle trolling motor and a wide eye fish/depth finder. all lights work. tachometer, gas guage work. Motor is in top notch working order. The transom is about shot. Trailer is in good condition, but could use recarpeted rails. Trailer lights work.

Let me know what yall think. I may sell it letting whoever buys it know that it needs a new transom befor it hits water. I may can buy another boat for next summer, but nothing too new. Sorry so long. Thanks everyone.

Jonathan

Why don't you just re-build the transom ?
And re-paint her.
I've read posts on here where boaters have fully dismantled and rebuilt old motors and whole boats like Ralph Spencer's.
http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=005805

If you like the boat, and the motor is good, either rip it out and re-build or get it done at a marine engineer.
You could go out and buy a boat with a great transom and the $4000 motor may go Ka Bloooey..

Re: How much could I sell my boat for?

Thankss for your help once again guys... I found a great detailed site to do a rebuild on a transom similar to mine... Check this out.

http://www.rotdoctor.com/glass/GLtransoms.html#trans3

I would have to do the standard rebuild, but would rather take the back side off and be able to put it back on once the wood is replaced. Tell me what yall think. I have a sister in Misquite Tx up there by Ft Worth. Yeah, I can use all the advice/help I can get right now... I think if I can rebuild the transom, it would breath life into me and promote me to restore the entire boat which I would love to do since it was dad's and all... Thanks again!!

Good link (Hope I never need it though)..

A Guy that works with me, built an electric guitar from some woodwork experience and the internet. He even wound his own pickups...
I play guitar, and it sounds unique and pretty good. He then went on to build a steel string acoustic guitar, believe it or not... and again it aint half bad..All the info came from websites including the top bracing and neck bar setup.
I have pictures to prove it.
So .. GO FOR IT... If you follow the principles, it will work well.
Keep us informed :D
