My brother has a 1995 Rude 115 on a 17 foot Glastron,I am looking at dumping my 90 hp Johnny on my 19 foot Spectrum for a 1994 120 hp Evinrude. Will there be a noticeable difference in top speed with this jump in motor,,I currently run approx 37,,but sure would like to outrun my brother,,approx 44.Also,this motor is coming off from a 7500# houseboat. Is this a motor that I should stay away from,,is this hard on a motor.Any info much appreciated.

As long as the engine was propped to be capable of its recommended wot operating range and was maintenanced properly it should be fine.Considering that it is or was mounted on a house boat may mean that it has spent most of its life outdoors and may not be as pristeen in appearance as a garage kept rig. However if it was maintained properly who knows?A 120 verses the 90 hp shouold gain you at least 2" in prop pitch and should put you close enough beside your brother for him to see you stick your tongue out at him. :p That is assuming he doesn't hang a 150 on his in the meantime. ;)

As far as I remember the 1994 120HP rude was a loop charged model which will produce especially a lot more low end turque than yours and your brothers crossflow, it its in good shape. Be sure to get it propped right, to 6000 with a light load, and do a couple of decarbs on it when its mounted. I´m sure you will feel a lot of difference. At top end loopers and crossflows should be horsepower to horsepower, but you sure will get there sooner. Work with the setup, to get best mounting height.

dont for get about the lbs the 120 is an easy 360lb, so you mite be looking at 40 to 60 +lbs.

It depends on which 115 your brother has. If its the crossflow, your 120 will develop a ton more torque. If he has the 60 degree looper, it may be closer. The 60 degree is very quick revving.

It also depends on which Glastron he has and which Spectrum you have. There are some 17 Glastrons that, boat for boat, should be faster than yours and vise versa.

I can tell you for a fact that on a 15' Allison a V4 crossflow with stock porting will turn 7200 at 73-74 mph in the 1/4 mile. Same boat, same prop, same gearcase on a V4 looper (stock ports) will turn 8200 at 82 mph. And do it considerably quicker.

Let us know how you make out!

Ok dhadley,my question is,,what is the difference between crossflow and loopers. His Glastron is a older boat,I believe in the 70s.My spectrum is a 1989 19ft aluminum. His motor is a 60degree V,,just not sure if loop charged or crossflow.

All 60 degree E/J motors are loop charged.
