I use to live in New England, enjoyed my early teenage years fishing from the shore. It's actually one of my most cherished past times...the smell, the Fishing, all the boats, the train tracks....
Fast forward...moved to Phoenix. I hated boats. Now I moved to ID .up here there are some major lakes. Got my first boat, and then another. .. I keep thinking about my boat and boating. Being out on the water.

Now, while I enjoy many land activities of N idaho... I am missing the ocean for boating only. And ocean fishing.

Have you relocated to have a better boating life? Or for the sake of boating... Will you stay by the ocean?

My earliest memory was at age 4, sitting next to my Grandpa holding onto his hand while he steered the boat.

At age 12 tragedy hit and Grandpa sold the boat. I thought it was the end of my life.

I got my first boat when I couldn't afford to buy one, but I did buy some wood and Grandpa helped me build it in his garage. He got the first ride with me.

I had a boat before I had a car.

I met a sweet little girl in college and our first date was on my boat. Her Grandpa had a boat, and she has been my first mate for 49 years now. (christened every boat we ever owned)

At age 35 I got real sick and couldn't take the boat out that Summer. I thought it was the end of the world.

At age 50 I was offered a mandatory transfer to a place with lousy boating. I quit my job and stayed in God's Country and worked part time.

My sons were boaters before they could even stand up. They now have boats bigger than mine.

Yes, I like boats. If I can't go boating, just put me in a nursing home. Or, better yet put me in my old tinny and push me over Niagara Falls.....is there a better way to go?

Can't imagine not being able to run off to hang at the beach every once and a while. Been our getaway for many years. Started as a teenager. Still running off to cheap beach hotels on deserted beaches (off season) when the opportunity arises.

I wanted to live at the beach and rent beach umbrellas for a living. My wife wanted to raise horses (currently have 5) and live in the mountains.

We settled on a farm situated atop the eastern most Ridge (Parr's) of the Appalachian in Maryland.
My wife got her horses and a view of the mountains out the back window. I'm 40 minutes from the Chesapeake Bay and 2 hours to the Atlantic.

Our next home will be waterfront. Either the Chesapeake proper or a major tributary. Looking more and more like Virginia although we've always favored North Carolina.

Sounds like us. It's 10 minutes south to the launch ramp, or 10 minutes north to the stable.

She used to have 7, but thankfully the herd is down to only 3, or 6 if you consider the goats.

Saturday is horse day, Sunday is boating day. Monday - Friday is one or the other or both, depending on the weather.

I moved from boating in Wisconsin (the state with 15000 lakes) and lake Michigan to boating in the Gulf of Mexico on the Florida Gulf Coast. My first memories were on a boat. Dad says it was a 12' dumphy

I turned down many jobs because while they would have been a great career moves, there was no boating in the areas.

I even considered living on a man-made private lake that was 150 foot wide and 0.3 miles long (a dammed up creek) that was set up for skiing. however there were no houses available on the lake, so I could not take the job.

My doctor says I should be living in Arizona because of my sinus allergies..... the boating is not that great in Arizona, so I live in Florida.

I live in Wisconsin and I have a boat but not a car! I am 13 years old, own my own boat (12' mirr, the one in my photo), currently own two Evinrude, a 3HP 1966(for sale), and a 6HP 1971(in use). I do all the maintenance myself and recently mounted a fishfinder. We tow it with a toyota prius. Buget boating at its best!

Not the Ocean, but the Gulf of Mexico, growing up in the Houston, Tx. area. Later in life I moved inland and the first thing I noticed was the taste of the fish. I missed the salty flavor of saltwater fishing.....the bad part. The good part may be answered like this: I had 2 sets of fishing tackle: One for the salt water and one for fresh water.....reason? Yes the baits are different, but the freshwater doesn't have salt stickiness and corrosion, nor does my boat...and the one I had back then was dual usage, and that is well worth not having salty tasting fish.

I built my first boat, a woodie, from scratch and ideas I got from looking at other woodies of the day, at 15 yrs. of age, powered by an 18 hp "rude". Got my driver's license at 14 and used mom's car to tow it.

We're fortunate in that we have the property for her to keep the horses, plus two sheep, here at the house.

The unfortunate part is that I'm still working and traveling full time, along with my role as Maintenance Manager and field hand at home.

My wife is not a boater in general, but certainly no fan of "big water" boating. Then again, you'd be surprised of the number of people that have issues as the shore lines disappear into the horizon. Boating on a body of water notorious for its choppy waters don't help.

When running, I tell her to stand up and ride the boat like a horse.....she doesn't see the humor...lol

Odd as it sounds, I was on boats so young that I don't remember the first rides! There are pictures of 'em, but I was too young to remember.

Grew up in Detroit, but the family has a place up on a lake near Lupton, MI. We were all over that lake as kids, and now adults. Sailed with friends out on the great lakes; anything from Sunfish up to 30 footers. Since I've been down here in Tennessee, we've had three boats (plus the canoe/kayak stuff). We've been trailering around to local lakes and rivers for years - which has been great: beautiful waters and beautiful land.

I've been fortunate to have had the chances to run boats on the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico, plus be out on them rather regularly on the Gulf of Mexico.

And I'm eclectic enough to really enjoy all of it.

I've lived on a lake in SE MI. since I was in my 20's (now 69). Have spent a lot of time on Lake St. Clair, Lake Huron (especially the Georgian Bay and northern areas). Bought a second home in Florida, 10 miles from the Gulf. There are 3 large rivers there that let me launch and be out in the Gulf within 1/2 hour. Nice, because the rivers are spring fed. So though the boat is spending a lot of time in salt water, it's launched and retrieved in fresh water. Works great!

So you could say I'm a bona-fide water person. Love my boats.... -Al

I grew up in a house with a dock on the St Johns in Fl . Needless to say the river and boating was and still is a big part of life . I don’t have a water front house now but the ramp is 3 mins down the road . I had my own boat way before I could drive .
Started surfing in 1978 .. I don’t surf as much these days because of back problems unfortunately but will never live to far from the beach . I’m really in to old classic boats and am a member of the ACBS and the AOMCI .. The Admiral really enjoys going to all the events so we participate going to events as much as we can ..

The boat that doesn't need water, would that be a land yacht (a big heavy car or p/u)?
