Hi, I need to know how much my boat weighs as I need to get my trailer road worthy. The present trailer has the original axle and the braking system (surge mechanical) is all rotted out, so if I could just put an new axle with idler hubs on it, it would be less expensive. Now, in Ontario Canada, we are supposed to have trailer brakes if the gross weight is over 3000lbs, I may or not be close to that, not sure.
I would appreciate your help on this,
Thanks,
Ron

What engine and drive?
Edit: saw your other post looks like a 165 Merc. From the catalogs found, looks like around 2400 lbs dry from the factory, but the only way to get an exact is to take it to a scale.

Sorry, it is an inline 6, 160hp and it has a pre Alpha outdrive on it. When you say dry weight of 2400lbs are you talking just the boat with engine/drive?? I can't get the boat to a scale now as the bearings are toast from the trip home with it in the spring, to replace the old bearings is very expensive compared just putting on a new complete hub so I can't get it to a scale. Thanks, please let me know about the dry weight.

That is Starcrafts 1400 for the boat and 715 for motor and drive. systems dry, no fluids on board. I'm guessing probably around 3000 when fluids and fuel added, plus any gear.

Thank you so much for the help, I think I may be looking at a braking system for the trailer after all, it would be safer in the long run too.

Yep, better to go the safe route and have them.I'm sorting through the same mess on my trailer as well; bearings and hubs are good, but the brake system is a nightmare. But when you stop and think about, if the expensive boat that usually gets all of the attention and maintenance needs some work, what kind of shape do you think the trailer is going to be in? I pulled the cap off the master cylinder when I first got it, and found nothing but a bunch of rusticles inside, and brake drums packed with grease from over filling the bearing buddies.
