See what you can get on a trade-in and check ebay for comparables. The hard fact is, price is based on who likes your motor the most; you or the guy willing to give you cash right now.

the 70 is a great motor, but for most small fishing boats too big, for the bigger boats, too small. you are looking a a buyer who has a 15-16 runabout. they commercial trap fishermen love them, they are light and economical for there strength. $500-900

You may also want to try www.nadaguides.com and go to the boating section. Also, strangely enough, it shows not only blue book value but weight of the engines, which can come in very handy when comparing models.

If it were me, I'd check comparable used prices at the local dealer for comparable condition motors. Keep in mind a buyer will be willing to pay more from a dealer because there is the perception of getting at least some protection it it goes bad soon after the purchase. Also, we all know we think our stuff is always worth more than it probably is. Like the previous poster said, the value of anything is determined by what someone is willing to pay at the moment you are selling. It's just going to take some investigation on your part.
