How Much Lube In A Mercruiser Alpha One Gen One Lower Unit?

I thought I had been told that it needed a quart but I have also been told that it should come oozing out the vent plug when completely full. Anyways I pumped a Quart in but nothing came out the vent plug. Should I pump in another?

make shure the drive is as level as possible and pump as much as needed to make some come out the top hole, about 1 1/4-1 1/2qts. you are pumping from the bottom hole i assume.

Thanks for the tips. I did have the outdrive trimmed slightly up so I will make sure to bring it down when putting more in. Yes I am pumping from the bottom up. Another note is that the old oil was dark with nothing that appeared milky. I did not see any metal in the oil but did see some on the drain plug. It appears that the plug is magnetic and picked some up. I would say all of it collected together would probably be equal to half a BB in size. Is this anything to worry about? This is the first time I have done this

if the shavings are dark nothing to worry about, normal wear.

Why does it drain sooo slowly? Drive is level, vent plug is wide open.

Does it have a gear lube monitor? If it does, your capacity is more, as is the method.
