How much oil should I be using?

I have searched high and low and can't find my answer.....anywhere on the net or manuals. I have ran approx. 12 gallons of fuel through my engine and used less than a 1/4 of the capacity of my oil holding tank. It is a 1984 Yamaha 40 hp. I do have a small leak in the oil system that I am having trouble finding which makes it even less that the motor is using. This is my first oil injected/precision blend engine so really don't know what to expect the consumption of oil to be. Does this sound about right for you experts? Thanks

Re: How much oil should I be using?

i have a 85 h.p. suzuki and use about a gallon per fill up. i have a 30 gallon gas tank but I do not run it dry. Hope this helps some. In 12 gallons I would think you would need about 30-31 ounces of oil for a 50:1 ratio.

If you were mixing 50:1 you would use 32 ounces for 12 gallons, but the precision blend should be mixing a little leaner at idle. I would assume 32 ounces (1 quart) should be on the max. amount used, anything more you might have a prob.

Thanks for the responses. I just wanted to make sure I was using enough.
