How much should I be charged for a service
place to see what's wrong with my
Johnson 65 hp outboard? The boat had been
sitting around for 14 months without being
turned on. The seller said last time he
had it it was working. I sprayed some wd-40 put new gas, newpark plugs and a 12volt car battery (for testing) and the engine didn't work.
This is my first boat I know very little about boats, but i'm learning as much as I can any assistance would be helpful, my next
step is to take it to a marine repair place
to see if he can make it work, but i'm
scared that i will be taken for a sucker
and be overcharged. Begging for help,
mamajuana2001.

Hi mamajuana,
Most shops charge for one of shop time. Some
shops will apply that to the service bill, or
half of it anyway. Call some up and ask what their labor rate is and what they would charge you to see what is wrong. Just a thought check to see if the kill switch is turned on.

...have fun...corm

If you can trust the seller that it was in fact running fine 14 months ago, then it is proably nothing expensive.I would guess the carbouators are gummed up.Just my.02 cents.Start with basics. Are you getting spark?
