Re: how much thrust needed????

well, since no one else's got anything to say about this, I'll chime in with my limited experience. I've got a 19 ft. closed bow that I have a transom mounted trolling motor. I will say that I use the trolling motor mostly for "controlled drifting" rather than actual trolling. I'll fish off the bow or roof deck, just letting the boat drift around until I get a little off track from where I want to be and then have my buddy, wife, or kid use it to take us back on track. That and since I'm on a lake, i can use it as an electric kicker. I used to have a 36 lb. motor that moved the boat around pretty good, but when I lost that one (stupid human trick), i moved up to a 47 lb. one. It is my experience that they tell you to get one that's more than you need. the 47 lb. gets me around just fine. That being said, I don't use the 1 or 2 (low power out of 5) settings because they move the boat *really* slowly. I guess if you wanted a lot more control over your trolling speed (and perhaps a longer battery life by using a lower setting?? ), you may wish to go with a 65 lb. or so.

If I had a better setup for a bow-mounted (or wanted to pay the extra money) it would probably be easier to fish with than the transom mount, but I haven't realy had the need yet.
