How much trim is too much trim??

I do not have a trim up switch that works and have to use the trailor switch. I want to make sure I am not hurting the outdrive. I trim up for about one to two seconds. I never hear the prop sucking air..I have done that a few times to make sure I know how far that is. I have a good rooster tail and water is splashing far away from the boat. Does this sound ok?

Thanks

Really touchy that way but i guess you could get by with doing that.Remember trim needed depends on speed, water conditions and weight on board.
you can get a steering wheel mounted trim switch for 40 bucks that will work on about any boat..Depends on why old switch is not working..
Post more specifics about what kind of boat, motor ect...see if we can solve the problem.

fix the trim switch, your going to get out to far and not pick up water one day and burn it up.

IF the Prop Looses it's Bite,.............. You're Trimmed Too High,.......
It'll still be Way Under the point in which Any kind of Damage can occur................

If you're running accross the Water,+ the boat starts to Porpoise,.........
You're trimmed Too High,...... Again,.. this is Way Before Any kind of Damage can occur.......

What I do to find the Best Trim for Conditions is;...............
Trim In,+ start off,....... Trim Out til it starts to Porpoise,... Then trim In Slightly..........
Then it's a matter is Tiny adjustments to find the Highest RPMs,... Without the Porpoising.......

When mine is up to high (also from using the trailer button) the engine reves up because the prop has lost its bite.

I think on I/O setups, the drive is low enough in the water and on current engines the water pickup holes are such that you could trim out to the point of loosing speed without cooling water starvation.

If you want more proof, take a carpenter's level and trim out your outdrive (on the trailer) to the point where the tip of the prop is above some arbitrary height. With the level leveled at the prop tip, look at where your water pickup holes are.

I had a deep V padded Ranger bass boat with a 115 Merc Tower and I could trim out to where I lost speed. The rooster looked like the one lube dudehas in his logo. Never had a cooling problem.
