Thanks to all of you who responded to my last post, that was great.

So now I know I have a 1966 Johnson 80 H.P. outboard motor. That is great, so where does the engine get the water from? I have two holes just below the engine housing, one on the side, and one on the rear that I assume is the exhaust, and there is one more opening right by the propeller. I am assuming the last one is the water intake, and the hole on the side the the water outlet. I did buy a water muff but it does not seem to fit this outboards configuration. Also any good places to look to get a pump for the gear lube would be good. I am in the Niagara area of Canada..

Thanks again.., Can't wait to get out!
pvisser@sympatico.ca

Hi, PVisser.

You are correct. The water intake is down near the prop.

You need to submerge the gearcase to at least the AV plate and have enough volume of water to fill the cooling system without exposing the intake to the air.

Your gear lube usually comes in a plastic, toothpaste-like tube. You pump the oil by sticking the nozzle in the drain/fill hole and squeezing. Optionally, there are plastic bottles with a hose that screws into the hole. I like the larger bottle because I make less of a mess with it.

Please keep the conversation about your engine in one thread, rather than starting a new one. It makes it much easier for readers to learn by reading the whole story in one place.

Good luck. :)

Paul, I bought one just last night at Wal Mart for just 2 bucks. It was on sale, I guess, but it worked great. I had my lower unit full in just a couple of minutes. Hope this helps.

Mauricio
