How much water from skiing

I get some (1 gallon or so) of water in the bilge after a half day of wakeboarding, skiing, etc... We try to be conscience of dripping off on the back deck, but some gets in. Just wondering if others who ski/wakeboard a lot have similar amount of water. I usually park on hill after I pull of the river and pull the plug and let the water drain out. I don't think I have a problem, but am beginning to wonder.

Thanks
Chris

to *me* that seems reasonable, depending on how often the wakeboarder/skiier/tuber gets into the boat - as they drip dry in the boat (at least thats the way we used to do it) so long as the water's not coming in from a transom leak, or bellows - the amount of water in the bilge is going to be relevant to how much gets tracked into the boat after boarding. (even being conscience to dripping at the back)

1 gallon huh?

If 1 gallon is all there is.. you're really anal about it! :p

I wouldn't think anything of a gallon.. actually, I think a gallon would justify the beer being spilled during 'power slides' and spilled ice ;)

As long as ya let'er breathe out after.. you're all good.

We get some in ours as well but it's a boat and it meant to be around water, inside, outside whatever. What if just go cruising for the day is there any in there then (assuming you start off dry)?

I get about a gallon and a half just sitting somewhere for about a half hour. Is that normal to get that much water by a tight plug?

Is the boat in question an inboard or an I/O?

When I've got my 15 year old son and a couple of his friends out wakeboarding and swimming the entire boat seems to get soaked with water. I notice the bilge pump kick on at least a couple of times during the day. I would bet they drag 10 - 15 gallons of water into the boat with them during the course of a day.

1 gallon is completely normal with that much use. We used ski heavy with my folks 140 Johnson powered Glastron SSV175, in the evenings after work. We would have at least a gallon, probably more like 3 gallons a night. I know that hull didn't leak a drop too.

Jeff

I ski with my boat on average 2-3 times per week and usually end up with a gallon or more when I pull the plug at the end of the evening while loading. I don't think you need to be concerned, CP611.

Re: How much water from skiing

My experience is that this varies a lot from boat to boat. My first two boats I used to get a bunch in the bilge depending on how many people were in and out. My latest boat has more floor space and it seems to dry out more before draining to the bilge. I have a buddy who had a Maxum 2100 SR; for some reason all the kids used to play over on his boat; in and out, in and out. Weird thing was that boat NEVER got any water in the bilge. I crawled all over it trying to figure it out and still don't know (no, it was not self bailing). He is all freaked out now with a newer boat that does end up with water in it . . .

Pretty simple to figure out if you have a problem, though. Just run it without anybody getting in the water for a little while. There should be no water in there unless you have a leak. Of course this test would assume that it was dry to begin with . . . :D

Re: How much water from skiing

Thanks guys for all the responses. It puts my mind at ease. Its hard to figure how much water drips in the boat. Sangerwaker, I envy you. I wish I could get out 2-3 times per week. I am about 35 minutes from the river and usually make it once during the week and once on the weekend. It's also hard to find the "boat dummy" (3rd person) :) . Its surprising how hard it is to find people who can go. Some of its my fault, I don't plan very well. Its usually 1 or 2 in the afternoon when I decide, today would be a nice day to go. Anyway thanks for all the help.

Chris
