i have a 9.9 1992 j10rena johnson i just bought and when going over everything. I notice that with muffs or in a barrel water just lightly trickles out. Not a steady powerfull stream on my past motors. I did check the water pump and the impellor does not look to be shot. i did order a replacement just in case but...

So i dont believe i have an overheating alarm on this so how do i know if its getting enough to cool. I can touch the block with my hand after running (10minutes) for 4-5 seconds before I have to pull it away.

An impeller can appear ok but still be worn out. They don't have to be shredded to need replacing. However, if you can touch the head for 4-5 seconds, it's working fine.

Pull the pee hose off and see if the stream is stronger coming out of the block. Quite often that hose gets fully or partially plugged.

My 9.9 Evinrude put out a pretty strong stream when all was in order. You can also take a 14 guage wire (or bigger) and strip off the plastic coating and use that to stick up into and down your tube. Be careful and go slow, but small pieces of debris can affect your stream as well. I agree about the "looks can be deceiving" comment when it comes to impellar blades, too. I had one that you would've sworn was in good shape. Once I changed it "just in case", she started peeing like a race horse.
