how much water through exhaust relief at start up?

Just a question for you old pros. <br /><br />I have a '79 115hp which I am just getting to know. <br /><br />How much water discharge should I expect out of the exhaust relief ports at idle when the engine is cold? I get a steady stream, not a misty spray. <br /><br />I just did the thermostats and am worried that I put the spring-backed valves in wrong. <br /><br />Any help?<br /><br />Thanks in advance,

I had the same problem.. the water pump was missing the grommet for the pick up tube.<br />It filled the exhaust housing and poured out the relief vents.
