On average, how often should a fuel/water separator be replaced?

I suppose that depends on how much fuel you run through it. I use my boat fairly regularly, and replace it anually. I keep meaning to upgrade to a unit with the see-through plastic bowl and drain, but the basic style has served me well.

Annually, as the bottom can rust, due to the collected water.

I pull mine off and dump it out on cement before every trip. That way I can see how much water, if any, has accumilated in case there is a problem. And yes, you can simply re oil the rubber seal and reinstall it. :)
