Hi, I have an ancient evinrude Big Twin 40hp. The part no on the mount says it is a "002A". This is the only number i can get.
Can you tell me the year. Thanks.
Hi RD, that part number doesn't ring a bell with me, but you can access a list of all the older Johnson/Evinrude outboard model numbers by doing the following;

Go to http://www.johnson.com

Then click on the link "DockTalk"

Then click on the link "Engine Model Year Reference Guide"

Then click on "Evinrude Outboards"

Then click on your horsepower "40"

Now you can see all the model numbers for the various years of 40hp Evinrudes.

My father had an older Evinrude 40hp twin - it was a great reliable motor for us for many years.

Hope this helps.
Thanks Kiwi, but again they are looking for a model no. Can anyonr tell me where i can get this no. on the engine , the no. i have got was on the mount attached to the boat. I have pictures of the engine cover, is there any way i can post them here.
"Model ID:
For Johnson and Evinrude outboards, check the following locations:

-the stern mounting bracket
-the freeze plug
-the flywheel
-the side of the cylinder assembly

Hope this helps......"

A copy of a phone_man post earlier, thanks.

/Bear
