How old is my Mariner

I have just purchased on old 20hp mariner 2 stroke outboard and having great difficulty finding a manual as I dont know how old it is.
The serial number is on a plate on the shaft no 804AC95578, all of the sites I have tried only have 8 digits. I beleive this may have been made or sold in Canada and could be pre 1986.

Any one any ideas?

Might want to look for a model number or a different number of some sort on that motor. That isn't close to anything.
Look around on the swivel bracket.

Thanks for replying.

Had a look on and around the bracket with no joy, on the engine itself there is a blue badge with an "M" and C0095578 stamped into it.

That's a tough one, As Merc and Mariner models are sometimes hard to decipher. Check out this link and you may be able to come up with it...

Many thanks for your help, it turns out my engine is an evinrude not a mariner. Dont ask how I got this mixed up I feel daft enough already.
