Someone recently gave me a case of "Quick Silver" 2 cycle oil that is at least 10 years old. The cans are in like new condition. Can I trust this stuff? :eek:

Re: How old is too old?

It would totally depend on where and how it was stored. If it was stored indoors, under climate controled conditions,it should be A-1 primo,"nothin wrong with that grade". If it was stored on the back porch floor,and the bottom of the box stayed there when you picked it up, I would have the same question. And here is how to answer it;
Get a coffee filter, support it in a funnel,and drain pan, and pour about 4 ounces or so into it.
Let it drain thru the filter until it's gone (probably overnight). If you find any specs, or gelly-like nodules on that filter, it's shot.
If not, not much else happens to dry-stored, sealed oil.
At least, that is how I would decide. But I am no oil guru iether. Still, I wouldn't hesitate to use it if it passes that test.
Just thot of something else tho..Make sure it has "TC-W3" on the label.

IF premixing, use it...if oil injected, filter it first...
