I have the main tank out of my rig(volvo aq120b/270 stern drive) and not quite ready to reinstall but want to tune/re-winterize the motor. What's the best way if any to use a temporary fuel cell to run the motor for a bit? I'm working in my driveway and the engine compartment is wide open. Thank you.

Not sure what others will think but what about one of the 3-6 gallon red cans for outboards. I dont know if that will work but a quick connect and a primer on fuel line. I guess it depends on where the fuel pump is, if it is tank or engine mounted. Others will chime in i am sure and i may end up being wrong but it couldnt hurt to try i would think. Since it works on outboards all the time.

Yeah I have one for my outboard which is currently full of mixed fuel. The fuel pump is mounted on the side of the engine. I have 3' of old and new gas line, but no sort of connectors to a tank other than my aluminum. I guess I can thread that fitting into the fuel line on another universal outboard tank? I wouldn't need a primer bulb would I? Thx for the input.

if you boat has a return fuel line, dont forget about it! if it is just a single line, the jerry can will work ( will work with a return line also), but i would avoid putting the can onboard the boat, pick up some fuel line, and set your temporary fuel source outside of the hull.

Yes. This is what my common sense is telling me.. But I know I've seen several times on here about slapping an alternative temporary fuel source and takin er for a go when diagnosing fuel system issues.. Not saying that's what I want to do, but.. So I was thinking there may be a "right way" and a "wrong way" LOL. We don't need things going BOOM I agree!

I would also like to comment on the Search engine. Before I made this thread I searched for "jerry can", and temp fuel tank and didn't find Anything. After making the thread, in the "similar threads" section, I see several addressing which I figured was already addressed here multiple times. I guess what I'm trying to say is the search fails me often and I end up asking basic questions because of it. Anyone have search tips? Like adding + or " " or..? I try quotations but I get the same results.

There we go. A little more searching turned this up. Hmm. Still unsure if I need a primer bulb. I thought the tanks themselves had threaded female port where the line/bulb unit has the threaded male brass fittings which I'd be able to screw into my fuel line leading to fuel pump. Ehh, I'll just buy another fuel tank and figure it out. I just wanted to make sure I couldn't use a regular old gas can without blowing myself up :)

Ayuh,... You don't need a primer bulb,...
Just hook a line from the fuel pump of the motor, to a can of gas, 'n do what ya want...
